Strong communities: Tasmanian Suicide Prevention Forum highlights
The Tasmanian Suicide Prevention Forum, held the day after the LiFE Awards, was centered around the theme ‘Strong Communities’, which highlights the role Tasmanian communities play in reducing the rate and impact of suicide.
Experts in suicide prevention, mental health service providers, government representatives, members of the community, and those with lived experience of suicide came together to learn more, discuss issues, and brainstorm solutions to help reduce suicide.
Close to 100 people attended the Forum which featured a diverse array of speakers, including Christine Morgan, CEO of the National Mental Health Commission, Ali Faraj, an adolescent expert on ABC’s “Old People’s Home for Teenagers” and local author, and warzone journalist Dean Yates with lived experience.
Attendees were provided with the latest research and a national direction of Suicide Prevention, as well as practical skills to implement into their everyday lives.
