SPEAK UP! Stay ChatTY Student Wellbeing Officer Program
Earlier this year, SPEAK UP! Stay ChatTY became an Approved Provider with the National Student Wellbeing Program in Tasmanian Government schools, covering primary schools, high schools, colleges, and district schools across the state.
The program appoints a Student Wellbeing Officer (SWO) to support student wellbeing by developing strategies in consultation with the school community, staff, and the principal. These strategies may include non-clinical student support, referring students to appropriate services, supporting student engagement, and promoting a safe and inclusive learning environment.
There has been an overwhelming demand for this program with 26 schools registering to date. Recruitment is ongoing and active, with 9 Student Wellbeing Officers hitting the ground running.
Principal of Cosgrove High School, Anthony Coe signed up to the program and the school was assigned a SPEAK UP! Stay ChatTY SWO. He has noted that the program is of great importance to the Cosgrove community where there are many students impacted by trauma, who experience significant socio disadvantage.
