This year marks the 75th anniversary of Relationships Australia (RA). <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Celebrating such a milestone certainly gives pause of the significant impact RA has had on the relationships and wellbeing of the people we serve. As a group of organisations focused on family relationships from its inception, one of the things I have reflected on is the broader impact of our work, not only through service, but through informing and influencing how Tasmanians and Australians think about and enable happy and healthy relationships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Celebrating such a milestone certainly gives pause of the significant impact RA has had on the relationships and wellbeing of the people we serve.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

There is a fantastic exhibition, How Far We’ve Come, prepared in our National Office with Swinburne University of Technology (available on the website<\/a>) which tells the story of how our organisation as a part of the RA network has influenced thinking around the rights and safety of women, responding to family violence, greater inclusion of diversity and reconciliation with first nations people. I encourage you to read it, not only to understand and reflect on the impact of the work of RA, but also to imagine what horizons we might aspire to touch in the next 75 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our history, the capability and capacity of our people, and the clarity of our goals give me great confidence in the future impact of Relationships Australia Tasmania \u2013 we have a history to be ambitious about!<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Whilst I have no doubt this organisation will make an impact for another 75 years, this year we have also been focused on our immediate horizon, with the development of the 3-year 2024 to 2027 Strategic Plan. We have been able to leverage and build upon the values informing our previous plan and have great clarity about the impact we want to have and the goals that will enable that to happen. We are ambitious in seeking to innovate and co-design services for evolving needs, leverage our influence to impact public policy, and sustainably grow to service more Tasmanians across the state. Our history, the capability and capacity of our people, and the clarity of our goals give me great confidence in the future impact of Relationships Australia Tasmania – we have a history to be ambitious about!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a Board we have worked hard to match the enthusiasm and ambition of our employees by investing in changes to the way we govern. We have adopted a new legal structure, which fits the future potential of the organisation to have a greater impact. We have also invested in committees. We have given greater scope and influence to our Finance, Audit and Risk Committee to continue the great work we do to focus on the sustainability and safety of our organisation and its people, now lead by Carolyn Campbell-Wood. We have also established our Strategic Pathways Committee to give greater emphasis to working with management to set and achieve ambitious goals, led by Tony Bonney. We are also continuing to support and grow SPEAK UP! Stay ChatTY, with leadership from Rick Marton, and contribute to Clinical Governance through Jennifer Duncan’s participation in the Clinical Governance, Practice and Quality Committee. I want to recognise and thank my Board colleagues for their work this year, and specifically recognise the service of Rick Marton as outgoing President.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Board only plays a small role as part of a much bigger team to create the impact of an organisation like ours. In closing I want to recognise the effort and expertise of all our people. Under the leadership of Michael Kelly and the incredibly capable leadership team, our people demonstrate the values of Relationships Australia Tasmania and the work they do. We have heard so many stories this year of our people being willing to serve, showing that people matter, facing challenges in it together and looking forward – and it is clear the impact each person has in creating a connected and respectful Tasmania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
