Statewide Bereavement Care Strategy

RA Tas received funding from the Tasmanian Government Department of Health (DoH) to conduct a comprehensive consultation with the bereavement care sector in Tasmania.

We provided a detailed report back to the DoH, which included a service sector map, definition of bereavement care, literature scan and review of applicable standards and evidence, a set of Bereavement Care Principles and an overview of the current service gaps identified and shared by the formal care sector.

The final report … featured a Bereavement Care Complexity Model and recommendations for content for DoH to include in its future Tasmanian Bereavement Care Strategy.

This project consulted with 48 individuals, across 60 different bereavement-related roles, representing 22 professional groups and 42 service outlets across Tasmania. The final report, submitted on 11 April 2024, also featured a Bereavement Care Complexity Model and recommendations for content for DoH to include in its future Tasmanian Bereavement Care Strategy.

This initiative also resulted in RA Tas developing and nurturing Bereavement Care sector contacts, developed opportunities for new partnerships and collaboration and a deep insight into the bereavement care sector in our state and needs of Tasmanians who are bereaved.
